Villanelle

___where__s_the_high_____by_hailstorm13-d5mtwbm_largeShe can’t have it all.
Each time she may never wake;
so she writes her dreams on the bedroom wall.

On the horizon her thoughts give her a call.
Wild ambitions of flying, soaring high above the clouds
but she can’t have it all.

A wish she would recall;
that the flames would leap into fairies and dancing along the rosewood trim.
So she writes her dream on the bedroom wall.

She prays to Saints Peter and Paul,
asking that fairy dust may fall and gift her wings
but she can’t have it all.

She even told her mother what might befall;
that a falling star might land in her pocket—just a little keepsake.
So she writes her dream on the bedroom wall.

She hopes that her head will never fall
and that there will never be heartbreak,
but she can’t have it all
So she writes her dreams on her bedroom wall.
